Lis Fields

Lis Fields was given her first camera on her ninth birthday, it was a Soviet model, old and quite unpredictable, but she was thrilled. From then on she began documenting the world around her with photographs, something which has become a lifelong process. Over the years she has photographed her family, friends and colleagues, the various landscapes in which she has lived and numerous details of her various homes and places of work.

She grew up in Cambridge and went to Art School in Camberwell, London, graduating in 1986. Fields then lived in New York and from 1991, Los Angeles. After several years of working in the film industry, she returned to London in 1998. Throughout this time she worked as an artist in various ways, all the time taking photographs. Fields aims to make photographs which are not only naturalistic rather than posed.
