Luke Twigger
Luke Twigger graduated in 2008 with a First Class Honours degree in Fine Art from Loughborough University of School and Design. Twigger's work has always been a bit different, he has not been afraid of challenging the norms of time. His work has the nerve to take on the frigid establishment that is to say that it pays no heed to the consensual affectation of conceptualism. Luke Twigger's ideas and artwork are genuinely unique. His work focuses on The Swedish term Konsthantverk ‘the handmade art object’ where the notion of process and the handmade are heralded as equal to the object and concept.
There is irreverence in Luke’s work but it is much less self-conscious than other artists. His work is stylistically louche which you could say makes it bona fide Postmodern. Despite its originality, Twigger's work is available to all. It is evident that Luke Twigger is not willing to bend to his audience and that the sellability of his pieces is not his main concern. Luke appears to show distain for overanalysing his practice but rather focuses on the boundaries of what can be aesthetically usable without the sneering irony that so often underlies bourgeois condemnations of Kitsch. By blending aspects of Kitsch culture, design and fashion to create handmade objects Twigger has explored the boundaries between art, design and craft and each piece has been made with love. There is no denying that his work is quirky, cool and unique.
