Mackenzie Thorpe

1956

Mackenzie Thorpe was born in northern England, the eldest of seven children, he overcame dyslexia to become the world renowned artist he is today. Mackenzie Thorpe's Art is amongst the most sought after in the UK. His reputation as an artist continues to grow worldwide on an unprecedented scale. He is an ordinary individual, who has, through his art, the extraordinary ability to convey emotions and messages that speak a universal language.

His work expresses the entire range of human emotions, feelings from love, life and laughter, to struggle and adversity, challenge and innocence. Through his unique works, this artist has risen from the people, to draw for the people. An artist whose own life tells us that old frail dreams can become goals that are worth nurturing and working towards, that love and honesty can and will triumph over adversity.

Thorpe applied in 1977 to study at the local Cleveland College of Art and Design, leaving two years later for the Byam Shaw College of Art in London, and a fine arts degree. His works are associated with a principle of "Art from the heart" - combining tenderness with fervency through his abstract depictions of animals and children. His work is wide ranging from the accessible 'square sheep' and duffle coat boys to more challenging work focusing on isolation and mans struggle. Much of his work depicts his childhood growing up in Middlesbrough.

His work has sold out six exhibitions in the last few years. He had the biggest one man show ever held in Northern England at Allerton Castle, 1995. He was selected as the official artist for the 1996 Artexpo LA and was commissioned by Elton John’s Aids Foundation to do the 1996 Holiday cards. Other plaudits include the 'Best-Selling Published Artist' award in 2000 from the Fine Art Trade Guild-hosted Art & Framing Industry Awards.
