Polly Westergaard graduated from Northumbria University in 2006 in Three dimensional product design. Westergaards work focuses on creating designs that combine function and form to create cutting edge products and furniture. Westergaards designs reflects Polly’s personal creative style which is heavily underpinned by cultural links, the work is mainly inspired by Scandinavian design and imagery drawing from the Danish side of her family roots which is evident in all of her products. The pieces are influenced by the modernist movement and have been updated for the 21st century. "My design ideas owe much to my Scandinavian and British heritages. I undertake extensive research, exploring current and historical influences as well as gaining inspiration from nature. Ideas come when you least expect them.” This design process results in the production of stylish, practical, contemporary pieces, which combine quality with longevity”.
