1964
Born in Birmingham Robert Davies followed a traditional route into photography having attended the Royal College of Art until his graduation in 1993. The concept of his work has involved kidnapping things from their normal context and examining their surfaces in closer detail, ‘taking a bit of visual information and making it into something more testing and perhaps more sophisticated.’ Best known for his Epiphany series of photographs that transform classic moments of World Cup football into richly coloured abstractions, Robert Davies’ art operates in the zone where photography meets painting. His work is in numerous collections, including those of Citibank, Goldman Sachs, and Lausanne’s Musee de l’Elysee in Switzerland, and has been exhibited in public venues including the Musee d’Art Moderne in Paris.
