This month, Opus is privileged to welcome seminal pop artist and Royal Academician Sir Peter Blake. Blake rose to prominence in the 60s as a key proponent of the emerging pop art movement, alongside his contemporaries David Hockney and R. B. Kitaj. Throughout his career, he has made indelible contributions to popular culture (perhaps most famously with his landmark album sleeve for the Beatles' Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band) and gained critical acclaim for his work as an artist.
Blake's pieces in this exhibition include 'Found Objects' and 'Fag Packets' - symptomatic of one of the artist's primary objectives: to increase awareness of the beauty in everyday objects. Sir Peter is using things he has collected as a starting point to create art works that suggest something about a particular time or era.
